The challenge

Axpo's billing and switching departments were doing high-volume regulatory work by hand — annual purchase summaries for 1,500 partners, daily invoicing, and corrections. Volume was growing faster than headcount could absorb, and each market they entered added compliance overhead.

They needed an automation programme with measurable economics, not a pilot — tied to FTE recovery, ROI, and accuracy targets that finance would accept.

The solution

We stood up a small, mixed team (Tech Coordinator, Senior RPA Developer, Agile Coach, Project Manager) and shipped UiPath automations against the heaviest workflows.

Annual purchase summaries: bots extract usage data across distribution-network systems for 1,500 partners, calculate costs, generate reports, and coordinate approvals. What used to be 27 days of manual work now runs in roughly one day.

Invoicing: bots query Power BI dashboards, pull data from the CRM, generate invoices, and correct existing ones — over 600 daily transactions automated. The bot network now runs ~54,000 automated actions per month at 90%+ average accuracy.

The outcome

6.18 FTEs saved. $186K of pure profit in year one. 147% ROI — the kind of number finance teams actually believe when you put it in writing.
